The Easter after Hurricane Katrina we went back to the house to see what had changed. It was a horrible mess down there, everywhere you looked was devastation! Except this little purple surprise! I planted this just outside my front door the summer before and it was not pretty at all, in fact it was not doing anything before the storm because it was August in Mississippi. But somehow it survived the storm and was so beautiful I had to take a picture of it. And then I had to paint it...

Pressed flower initial
I see I haven't blogged since the pandemic started. I have been staying in since March 9th. My husband and dogs got their hair cut last week but I have not. Went to one store and the beach a couple times. Barely got out of the car and haven't been around people. Well, I don't know how many times I've been to the medical marijuana store but they have curbside service these days. I've been relying heavily on that to control the fear! It works for me thankfully!
We just moved, so the yard is full of weeds or what I like to call wild flowers. I went around last week and cut a bunch to press! It inspired me to make this initial and have another bigger frame to match. I guess it is calling for my last initial but am tempted to make something else.

Ikea raskog ironing station hack
Can't wait to use my new little ironing station! Found the hack on pinterest but that one was too high for me. Thankfully my husband is handy enough to lower it. I did lose one shelf but this works best for me.
I made the cover with extra padding to make it lux.
I have a huge board and the Rowenta but when quilting I find myself reaching for my old general electric model no steam.

Circle throw
Traced my pattern on the paper side of iron on appli-kay wonder. Ironed to fabric and cut out circles. Peeled and ironed to flannel block. Cut cotton batting to make a sandwich.
Went crazy trying to secure every last edge on my circles. After three blocks I realized I would never have enough thread to keep that nonsense up so I switched to a straight stitch for a raw edge block.
As usual I had several ideas for this quilt and didn't really decide until after I had started cutting and sewing. Soooo. We shall see how it works out.
It has turned into a throw because I don't know what I was thinking when I planned a king. Making a couple a throws instead and ordered new quilts for the bed.
Can't even explain how this works but you can go to you tube and watch quilt as you go videos.
Almost done.

back to the art
My valentine bought this wonderful amethyst geode! Isn't it fantastic!?
I guess I'm officially moved in and back to art. This is just one project I have going. Also working on a watercolor and painting a small table. Feels so good to have piles of projects instead of boxes everywhere! Actually the piles are bothering me but the art makes up for it. I need to find a way to store projects in progress so it isn't such a mess in here.
Plant room
Having so much fun using my art to decorate the new house. We found some wonderful antiques here in town to furnish the PLANT ROOM! It is everybody's favorite to hang out in the morning, the light! My studio spills over but I think it works.
Did a corner for the mermaid. She doesn't miss the pool as much now.
