jean jacket refashion

Finally finished the shaman charm for my jean jacket. Calling the coat done for now but I'm sure I will add stuff and work on filling in all the flowers. Love this project and can't wait to wear it! Well, I have been wearing it but haven't worn it with the jewelry.

Riki just wants to play...

This flower was a nightmare to complete. Ouch!

It's almost 2am so I'm going to put the coat down and go to bed. Getting closer to having the center done on the passion flower.

Slow cloth...I enjoy embroidery but I do it for way too long each setting. I like to see some progress and it takes hours sometimes to see anything, then I pull it out.

jean jacket refashion

I've been working on my jacket while waiting for spring to begin. So cold outside that I'm glad to have this in my lap to keep me warm. Can you see the fern in progress?

This time last year everything was blooming in my yard all at once! Hopefully the flowering bushes aren't affected by this record cold snap. They seem to know that now is not the time to be blooming.

I see the wisdom in having a garden journal although I've never done it. Now that I have social media I can track things by my pictures I shared the year before.

I've come to the scary realization that I need to shorten the sleeves! Yikes, really scary to do after spending so much time on the embellishment.  At this stage in life I'm used to making rookie mistakes while sewing and not going to let my fear stop me from making it right.Wish me luck.

In the studio

I've been feeling uninspired and lazy playing candy crush way too much lately. Then I took some pictures of the work I've done on my coat this week and check out those pours! I guess I'm not totally dull and being careful not to pour paint on my coat! I changed the dorset buttons to a different blue for the center of those three flowers. (I bought them in Austria.)

I want to do a couple more canvas acrylic pours to add to these and maybe make an entire galaxy! I also have some old 78 records so that will be cool. I could do a sun and a moon on those!  These remind me of nebulas.

My video was so silly but I think the pours are okay. I was nervous so I told myself to just pretend like I was talking to Riki...that explains the baby talk and breaking into a soprano occasionally. Gawd. Maybe next one I will pretend I'm talking to an adult. The first video I didn't talk and I sped it up. Much better that way but I had such a glare from poor lighting that I didn't even post it. Third time is a charm.

Jean jacket refashion

I think my riot of color out back this summer has inspired many a floral project. I really would like the back of the coat look like my flower bed, overgrown and beautiful!

I learned to couch a thread that is too thick to sew through the fabric. So using that to add morning glory to my  coat.
Wish I would have known that before I spent hours on that peace mandala for the back of the coat in the beginning. The whole idea was to utilize that thread but I really didn't like the mandala for this project. If you follow you have seen so many changes to the design. I have about ten coats in mind so hard to stay with a theme.

The garden is growing slowly. Believe it or not I worked the left columbine and weird leaf today....all day and it still isn't done. I haven't added a lot of foliage because I think there will be eventually be grass involved. The poppies on the other side should be orange but that just doesn't go with my color scheme so made them pink!

It has been fun using my sketches for the tarot deck project in a different medium at the same time. I haven't done much with the oxide inks because I am waiting for my new Ken Oliver WHITE craft mat! Hope it gets here soon. I made a hot glue stencil on my old Tim Holtz mat and the inks just haven't behaved well since.

Jean jacket refashion

This lint roller is the best tip I have learned for sewing this year. It grabs your loose threads really quick and keeps things neat.

Worked on the jacket all week. Finished the cuffs and added peace buttons everywhere. I have more rhinestones to add then I am going to start the back. Thinking of embroidered flowers every which way.

Little Miss Sunshine got really sick of the laundry room and requested a new location.
