New dylusion flip journal

Broke my new dylusion flip journal in tonight! Also inked my watercolor coleus and did a little cross hatching instead of cross hatching every inch! I over work every thing. This journal already makes me feel lighter and even though I have been doing art I have been doing more surfing on pinterest than drawing. Fuck that gets so old, searching for inspiration when really all you need to do is pick up a freaking paint brush or pen and go for it.
I tried to improve on the things that made my last sketch seem so flat. I'm going to mask the bright green and stems this time hoping it will make the pink pop without causing a muddy mess.
Organizing always inspires me and I didn't like my pencils in this marker storage. It works great for that so I put my pencils back in the Ivory Soap box. Hoping that having the markers on my desk will encourage me to use them instead of letting them dry out in the drawer. I had to recycle a bunch today that makes me feel horrible that I didn't use some of them and they are dry as a bone. It was also uncomfortable when my husband ended up transferring the recycle. (I really didn't want him to see my terrible secret.) He didn't say a word.

I can tell that the oxide inks are going to be my new favorite so set up a new drawer just for them with their matching distress ink. At least with them I can always re ink them if they dry out. I did not buy the re-inkers for the oxides but glad to know that they are available if I need them. The madness needs to stop somewhere.

8x8 journal

The only problem with the dylusion journals is the big gap when open.  I finally found a couple of little journals to stash in there when working on that side.

Dylusion 8" journal

This page is fun, not quite done.  I forgot I was doing one page spreads.  Glued some gelli prints on deli paper down with a glue stick and doodling with moonlight gel pens.

gelli journal page

I forgot to post the journal page I did with my gelli tine prints.  Paula Phillips worked on one page the other night and helped me realize that to work in the square, (the reason I bought this journal) I would have to just do one page spreads.  I really enjoyed the size.  Bottom left was one of my favorite gelli prints.  I did a few ATC's also.

Happy mail

Got some great happy mail from Paula Phillips the other day.  I really can not believe how cool her gelli prints are in person.  So deep...

Last two pictures are from my 1924 yearbook journal.

Ganesha stamp collage

I've had to drag out my art journal for a little fun art in between the serious stuff.  It is all fun but the stamp collage is more challenging of course.

Projects with the little gelli plate

I got my little gelli plate out and worked this page really quickly.  So easy to create layers by laying the stencil directly in the journal and stamping with gelli.  I really want to do a t shirt with this technique so I might copy my bird page on my next shirt.  That is what I love about art journaling, no pressure, just play and it might turn out cool.

peacock feather

Try as I might I cannot paint an authentic looking peacock feather.  The bottom one is getting closer but needs work.  Maybe when I get my new books it will help.  Drawing on the Right side of the brain and a color book by the same author.  The top and middle are what I "think" a peacock feather looks like...

Found more fabric that matches the bedroom.  Bought a few yards of it and going to make Riki his own blanket so he can leave mine alone.  The little brat chewed two rows of beads off the scarf the other day.

dreaming of summer

I spent some time yesterday reworking this journal page.  My view in the summer.  Can't WAIT!

Riki's new hoodie

They have been playing that movie "unfaithful" over and over on cable.  I love how my snow globe turned out.  I painted it using distress stains then used molding paste and smashed mica into it.

Riki got a new hoodie.  Poor baby got matted while I wasn't looking.  Had to give him a major haircut right before a cold snap.  This was Buster's hoodie but he was too fat for it.

plaza waterscape

I took this picture on the Country Club Plaza in 2007.  I love the reflection of the coin in the light.  After playing around with some index cards and water color I added it to a journal page in my dylusion journal.  A tip in.  The lady is something else on my desk, a photoshop creation I did years ago.  The more I worked on the page the more it resembled the picture so pulled it up on my computer to finish.  I like it.

background with photoshop

I played around with my much loved background with photoshop. That way I can keep it but still use it. Does that make sense?

mandala journal page

I spent entirely too much time on this spread.  It was relaxing after I got through the ugly stage.  All done with craft paint.  I like the circus colors.

Moleskine

Worked on this page believe it or not before I heard the news of the big solar flares this week. Gave me a perfect title.

More dragonfly

Got that GIANT bottle of clear gesso for 6.95 at my local freight store. Really excited about that find. Worked on my blue background today. I like how it turned out. That tissue I got for cheap is just perfect for collage. Melts right into the page. Used Pitt india ink pens directly on the tissue then matt medium to glue it down.
