water color

I worked on this water color all week and it isn't that great. I did learn some things so hopefully my next attempt will be more successful. I have a dried up bouquet that I want to try next. I'm obsessed with dead zinnias! The colors are so shabby chic.

Did a little shopping at Tuesday morning and found these Tim Holtz rub ons. I thought they would work great on the cover of my dylusions journals, I was right. These rub ons are perfect!

I also did a little coloring. This page is so bad I can't even fix it. I do like the others. So fun to just play around in that when procrastinating working on the more challenging water color.

Jean jacket refashion

Added a few more flowers to the jacket. Unfortunately I did not get to wear it to the Willie Nelson concert tonight...It was rainy and I am a big chicken and just could not make myself buck up and go see him. Sorry we missed you Willie thanks for coming back!

We decided to get tickets earlier this summer to see Willie and Dwight Yoakam. That evening we stopped at a buddies house to hang until closer to showtime because it was 100 freaking degrees.   Got   to Starlight Theater in Kansas City just in time for Dwight's set. HE WAS GREAT! Has not lost his mojo that is for sure! So, we weren't that disappointed when it rained Willie out because we have seen him before. First lightning strike we bugged out, last to arrive and first to leave. Our buddy had a huge tree come down on his truck right by the front door. Glad we had some place to be and weren't standing there when that happened.

Tom Petty was in town also this summer  but decided to go see Willie because, well you know. We thought we would have plenty of time to catch Tom. Just sad and needed to stay home and play with the dogs. To stay in the moment rather than let everything overwhelm me.

I've been really upset about the hurricanes and now that Vegas massacre puts it over the top. I feel the pain. The air is thick with it. My husband and I have been married for 35 happy years, (no kidding) and had the worst fight over a stupid pitcher of water yesterday. What is going ON?

The things Trump said to those people in Puerto Rico just makes me sick. Hard to believe we have people like him in this world (inciting violence at every turn) let alone him being our president. Not my president.

YOU'RE FIRED!

Jean jacket refashion

It takes so long to even get one flower done but I love working on this coat!

I have always wanted to be an artist for as long as I can remember. I had an auntie that went to the art institute in KC. One summer while we were hanging out in Grandpa's cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks she did a pencil portrait of me as a young child From that moment on, I wanted to do art but, I wasn't good...the art teacher in grade school only came a couple times a month. I lived for those classes.

Once I got to junior high I ended up in an art class taught by a freaking creep. He is a famous artist now and it makes me sick that he did not even try to teach me one thing about art. He and his equally creepy sidekick science teacher picked me along with about ten other "pretty" girls to be on the yearbook staff. I was excited to be part of it but now as an adult I see just how sick those fuckers were and wish I had enough nerve to stop them in their tracks. Instead of learning the basics of art I spent those few years partying with those creeps. In high school I majored in boys and did not even take one art class because I did not have enough confidence in myself. Makes me sick because I had three study halls all three years in high school and wasted them jacking around instead of learning the basics.  I've told the story before in the blog but can't help but bring it up again.

I spent my twenties doing fiber arts. Feels like going full circle working on the jacket.

Once I hit thirty I started oil painting and I have been doing art ever since. I stored almost everything I painted in the closet and only showed them to a few people. They never seemed done. I still wasn't good. I took one acrylic class in the basement of some old lady. I lined up down there in the dark with the only light coming from the easels. They were all really rude and didn't believe that I hadn't any lessons and when the lady decided to put her brush on MY painting I decided that wasn't for me. Therefore, I am self taught. I just wish I would have had the Internet all those years ago and maybe by now I would feel like I'm good enough. Oh, and my mother made fun of me because I told her that they said to paint things you were passionate about. Just so happens that I decided to paint a fall scene with corn stalks and pumpkins. She says, "Oh, so you're passionate about pumpkins?" Thankfully my husband is very supportive and helped me get past my insecurities.

After thirty plus years of doing art, I can now  call myself an artist. I'm still not skilled enough for my standards but I have found my passion in life and don't know what I would be without it. I still love to paint but also do mosaics, collage, quilting, crochet, wind chimes, art dolls, sewing and paper arts. I have often wondered if I had stuck to the oil painting in the beginning if I would be better? I wish I still had my early work but it is all in the bottom of the Mississippi Sound. Hurricane Katrina.

If you are just starting out keep everything, even if you don't like it just to show your progress if nothing else.

I hang my paintings in every room now. I've come a long way and hope to continue to refine my skills.

P.S. I wrote my #metoo post before all that shit came out about Harvey Weinstein. I'm a little intuitive and believe me there are creeps everywhere! Watch out girls...

Jean jacket refashion

I decided to embroider an entire flower garden on the back of my coat using my sketches from my flora tarot project.

This is my version of Queen Anne's Lace, she broke the ice so now I don't want to sleep and I want to sew all night long!

I know if I do I won't be able to move my hands tomorrow so going to bed.

My facebook garden

Spent some time painting these little flowers off my facebook page. That little pink moth was amazing.  The exact shade of the Osteospermum. I have never seen them before or since.

Inside cover.  Still not happy with it.

Garden 2015

The next round of blooms have begun.  California poppies reseed each year and bloom just as we open the pool.   The Iris were a little beat up from the rain but the Pansy's and Day Lily's on the other side of the porch are thriving.

Colorful world

Found some new cushions for the porch wicker.  I think I need to stop with the paisley.  I love these and don't care if they do take it over the top.

Summer haircut.  I took this picture and the top picture through the back door.

Riki thinks I might have gone a little overboard on the craft paint but I think all the spring color has inspired me to balance out my palette.  I bought some yellow, orange and red. I prefer craft paint over all others on the gelli plate.  Love the matte finish.  I will have to admit to all you Golden paint girls out there I just don't get it, too shiny for me.  I use liquitex heavy body for painting on canvas.  I also have a small collection of Winsor & Newton water mixable oils for canvas.  I love those.

 Can you smell these?

My Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain book has helped me on this new project. I turned it upside down and sideways and the hand came out pretty good.
